BBC reverses meaning of Israeli statement and apologizes

The traditional British broadcaster BBC continues to be involved in controversy due to accusations of anti-Israel bias in journalistic coverage of the conflict. In the last few hours, a statement from the Israel Defense Forces (IDF) had its meaning completely changed by the TV channel.

The IDF statement, reproduced by news agencies such as Reuters, said: “IDF forces include medical and Arabic-speaking personnel who have been trained with the intention of not causing harm to civilians.”

In the BBC version, it looked like this: “Reuters is reporting that Israel is targeting people including medical staff as well as Arabic speakers.” The video was reproduced on several profiles on X, formerly Twitter, which follow the news.

By reversing the meaning of the statement, the BBC contributes, even if inadvertently, to the increase in the wave of anti-Semitism that worries the West. Moments later, the broadcaster released a statement admitting the mistake: “We apologize for this error, which fell below our editorial standards.” Watch:

The station’s directors, in a meeting with the Jewish community in a London synagogue, admitted that the station had made serious mistakes in recent days and also apologized.

“IDF Forces Are Conducting a Precise Intelligence-Based Operation in a Specific Area at Shifa Hospital
15.11.23

Based on intelligence information and operational necessity, IDF forces are carrying out a precise and targeted operation against Hamas in a specified area in Shifa Hospital.

The IDF is conducting a ground operation in Gaza to defeat Hamas and rescue our hostages. Israel is at war with Hamas, not with the civilians of Gaza.

IDF forces include medical teams and Arabic speakers, who have undergone specified training to prepare themselves for this complex and sensitive environment, with the intention that no harm be caused to civilians who are being used by Hamas as human shields. In recent weeks, the IDF has publicly warned several times that Hamas’ continued military use of the Shifa hospital puts its protected status under international law at risk, and has provided sufficient time to stop this illegal abuse of the hospital. Yesterday, the IDF once again communicated to the relevant authorities in Gaza that all military activities within the hospital must cease within 12 hours. Unfortunately, that didn’t happen.

The IDF also facilitated large-scale evacuations from the hospital and maintained regular dialogue with hospital authorities.

We call on all Hamas terrorists present in the hospital to surrender.”
