The owners of a company that organizes wakes in the state of Colorado, in the United States, were arrested this Wednesday (8) because there were 189 decomposing bodies at the site.
The governor requested help from the FBI because the bodies were improperly stored.
The funeral home is owned by Jan Hallford and his wife, Carie. They are investigated for the following crimes:
- Abusing a corpse
- Theft
- Money laundry
- Falsification
According to a report from the American network ABC, investigators stated that the investigation began after neighbors said there was a bad smell coming from the place.
After obtaining a search warrant, authorities located the decomposing bodies. Initially, 115 bodies were counted. Later, the number increased to 189.
Due to the state of decomposition, it is only possible to identify the bodies with DNA testing – so far, 110 have been identified.
