A British man was arrested after committing his 518th crime, a series of robberies at a restaurant and sporting goods stores in Wales, United Kingdom. Andrew Davies, aged 43, is possibly the person with the longest criminal record in the countryaccording to his defense lawyer.
Davies’ own lawyer described him as having “the biggest clean sheet anyone has ever seen”.
“I am the first to recognize that he has an atrocious record. He has perhaps the worst record you have ever seen. He himself recognizes that it is an appalling record and it cannot be excused,” Oliver Jenkins told the newspaper Daily Record.
The thief became addicted to heroin as a child, and spent most of his life alternating between in and out of the British prison system.
Prosecutor Nicholas Evans told Cardiff Magistrates’ Court in Wales that a “strange-looking” man was seen at 6.30pm on October 25 walking down a flight of stairs from The Dock bar and restaurant with bottles under his jacket. . A security camera caught the Welshman taking three bottles of vodka, valued at more than R$500.
On October 25, he entered the JD Sports store and stole five Under Armor branded sweatshirts, totaling R$1,370 worth of products. The next day, he returned to the establishment and took four brand shirts. Fred Perry with a total value of R$1,800.
On October 28, he returned to the Dock but fled when an employee confronted him. Minutes later, Andrew went to Sports Direct at Cardiff Bay Retail Park, where he stole three Liverpool FC football team jackets worth £1,190 in total. Afterwards, he was finally captured by authorities.
In court, Andrew admitted to the robberies and attempted crimes. Last month, he was also convicted of robbery and received a 10-month probation sentence. As a repeat offender, he will now have to serve his sentence in prison.
