Chicago PD reveals bad news about series star departure

Jesse Lee Soffer, will leave Chicago PD during Season 10. Given how long it’s been on the air, the One Chicago franchise is not surprising with the departures of the cast. Over the years, the series has lost several important characters, including some characters that were on the series since its inception.

Fortunately, police procedure managed for a while to keep their core intelligence team for a while, with Hank Voight still having a very strong command of his squad. the next season of Chicago PD debuts in September.

Filming has been in full swing for some time now, with various videos and behind-the-scenes footage being released on social media offering fans a preview of what to expect when Intelligence returns to TV. With that, the show’s 10th season will likely suffer a huge loss with the departure of an original cast member.

Jesse Lee Soffer’s departure from Chicago PD

According to some reports from VarietySoffer, actor who plays Detective Jay Halstead in Chicago PDwill likely leave the Chicago Police Department when the series returns for Season 10 in September.

The actor confirmed the news and released an official statement thanking everyone he worked with on Chicago PD for nearly a decade. Check it out below:

“I want to thank the incredible fans of the series for their unwavering support over the past 10 years and I want to express my deepest gratitude to Dick Wolf and everyone at Wolf Entertainment, Peter Jankowski, Matt Olmstead, Derek Haas, Michael Brandt, Rick Eid, Gwen Sigan. , NBC, Universal Television, my co-stars and our amazing crew. Creating this hour-long drama, week after week, was a labor of love from everyone playing the show. I will always be proud of my time as Det. Jay Halstead.”

This is the biggest farewell to the Chicago Police Department since Antonio Dawson, played by Jon Seda, left in Season 6. Prior to that, Intelligence lost Al Olinki to a stabbing prison in what is arguably the most emotional departure from the show’s cast.

Aside from the fact that Halstead has been with the Chicago Police Department since he debuted Chicago PD, he is also set to be Voight’s successor, should the staff sergeant decide to retire. He and Hailey Upton finally got married in season 9. Therefore, there are no clear reasons why he would take his departure from the series.

Soffer won’t finish season 10

It’s also worth noting that, based on some reports, Soffer won’t even finish Season 10 of the series, as he left it long before filming ended.

Halstead leaving Intelligence would be a huge loss for Voight’s team, but it would also greatly impact the Chicago Police Department’s narrative. For nearly a decade, Halstead served as the squad’s moral compass.

Although his loyalty has been proven several times in Chicago PD, he’s also the one who tends to pull him back on the right track when the intelligence sergeant takes things too far. Also, it looks like Halstead’s personal story is really getting started.

In addition to his marriage to Upton, he still gets a mentor, Dante Torres, played by Benjamin Levy Aguilar. This highlights that he had a lot more stories to tell about his character. Unfortunately, the police procedure will no longer be able to deal with any of them.

The 10th season of Chicago PD premieres Wednesday, September 21 on NBC.
