A Brazilian couple were found dead in Hyannis, Massachusetts, in the United States, on Friday (2), in what local police believe was a murder followed by suicide. Luiz Castro Jr., 44, and Aline De Lima Ferreira De Castro, 38, were from Votuporanga, in the state of São Paulo. They leave two children, aged 7 and 11. According to the local press and a friend of Aline’s, the couple’s children were present during the crime.

In a statement, the Barnstable Police Department, responsible for the investigations, says that at 2:48 am on Friday it responded to an alert received by telephone that the residence of the Brazilians was being robbed. “Upon investigation, it was determined that a homicide and suicide occurred at the home, and the Massachusetts State Police Detective Unit was called to the scene,” the statement reads.

Aline’s friend, who also lives in the US, created a virtual crowdfunding so that the family can bury Aline’s body. According to his post on the Gofundme website (gofundme.com/f/aline-de-castro-e-filhos), where the campaign is carried out, the boys are being cared for by a family friend of the couple who cannot afford the costs of adding two more children. In her text, she says that Aline was stabbed by her husband in front of their children before he committed suicide.

Sought by the report, the Itamaraty has not yet answered what kind of support it is providing to children.
