After a tour of important festivals such as IDFA 2021 (Amsterdam), Hotdocs 2022 (Toronto), Festival de Cine de Lima and awards at the Festival de Brasília and Mostra Ecospeaker, a documentary from Minas Gerais opens in theaters on October 6, 2022.

Mining” is a hybrid documentary, where a fictional character interacts with real characters and situations. Produced by Trem Chic Cine Video Lab, a production company whose partner is the video artist Eder Santos, directed by Lucas Bambozzi and written by Christiane Tassis, the feature addresses the impacts of mining on the landscape of Minas Gerais.

The film shows the journey of the geographer Camila, an emigrant from Governador Valadares. Played by Camila Mota, actress at Teatro Oficina. She returns from the United States to her homeland, when the Rio Doce was contaminated by the rupture of the Fundão dam, in Mariana. Camila follows the path of the toxic mud that swept villages off the map and killed 19 people, finding landscapes, communities and people devastated. Governador Valadares, Baguari, Krenak Territory, Ouro Preto, Itabira, Paracatu de Baixo, Bento Rodrigues, Serro, Conceição do Mato Dentro, are some of the cities portrayed. Until another dam breaks in Brumadinho, killing about 300 people. Seeing the tragedy up close, she feels for the first time hit and gets involved with resistance movements.
