McLaren had a mixed performance today at Zandvoort, with Lando Norris finishing a reasonable P7 while Daniel Ricciardo only finished P17.

Andreas Seidl, Team Principal: “Strong race for Lando this afternoon, finishing P7. The Safety Car at the end of the race was a bit unfortunate for him, and he had to make another pit stop to fend off cars doing the same. It cost us a position for Fernando (Alonso), who had newer tires and could go all the way. From Daniel’s side, it has always been a difficult task from P17 to regain positions on this track and unfortunately no opportunity has arisen to make progress. The team worked hard this weekend, here on the track, in the factory, and our colleagues at Mercedes HPP. Our strategists had complex decisions to make today, but they were good ones, and the strategy team and pit team worked well to determine and implement them. We are looking forward to Monza, but congratulations to Zandvoort and the Dutch fans for putting on such a great event, with a truly sensational atmosphere,” he concluded.

Norris: “Hard race, but I think it was good. We gave it our all. I think we had a decent pace. Alpine cars are hard to fight, they can play a lot more with strategy. That was tough, so I’m happy with what we did. P6 would have been the best we could have achieved anyway. We lost some points to Alpine, but they are getting more out of the car than we are at the moment. Despite that, I’m happy with everything else. We will keep pushing and try to be ahead again next time,” he added.

Ricciardo: “It was always going to be a tricky Sunday because of where we started and the nature of the track. The first few laps weren’t too bad. I think we’ve taken a few positions here and there, but starting so far back is difficult, you need a big gap to make some moves and overtakes. Outdoors, it felt like I had a little rhythm, but it didn’t always seem to last long. So obviously it was another challenging weekend. We are looking forward to Monza and will try to bring back the magic of last year”, he concluded.
