Prisoner and former soldier PM Lindomar Aparecido Ribeiro da Silva, 51, was found dead yesterday (03), inside cell 4, radius 2, of the Central State Penitentiary (PCE), in the Industrial District, in Cuiabá. Lindomar was convicted in a popular jury for the death of cook Jair Rodrigues dos Santos, which took place in October 2002 in the Pedra 90 neighborhood. The police report was registered as intentional homicide.
The police report states that he was found lying in the supine position and showed signs of violence, such as bleeding in the mouth and strangulation. Signs on the body indicate that he had his wrists tied.
The Secretary of Public Security, through the Assistant Secretary of Penitentiary Administration, confirmed the identity of the inmate. Teams from the Homicide and Protection of Persons Police Station (DHPP) and the Technical Police (Politec) were in the penitentiary unit adopting the legal measures and the necessary surveys.
The three prisoners who shared a cell with him, João Marcos da Silva, 29, Thiago Ferreira de Menezes – age unknown -, and Fábio Gabriel Alcantara de Souza, 27, were analyzed. They had wrestling injuries. For this reason, they were taken for physical and criminal examination and sent for deposition at the police station. Lindomar was admitted to the prison on August 31, and was in triage for three days, and transferred to his cell on Friday (02). The death is investigated by the DHPP.
Cook Jair was mistaken for a robber who, hours earlier, had stolen R$15,000 in cash. At the time, he was caught at Delicius Fish-the company where he worked-when together with other employees he was waiting to receive his salary. Hours before their arrival, three men had stolen R$15,000 from the company and, according to the first version of the police, three employees called them to the establishment saying they recognized Jair as one of the robbers. After being searched and handcuffed inside the company’s bathroom, he was taken from the trunk of the Corsa da PM to the Pedra 90 line, near the neighborhood dump.
To simulate a confrontation, one of the police officers even got a 38 caliber revolver placed in the corpse’s hand. The farce was discovered because two other military police officers who were in the car told what happened.
