In recent years, fuels have undergone numerous increases. In 2017, for example, the average price of gasoline was R$3,687. Today, the average value already reaches R$ 5.25. Therefore, Brazilians want to know: will the price of fuels have readjustments? Recently, the Government made a statement on the matter and announced important changes in the values.
It is worth remembering that the week began with an expectation of lower prices for gasoline (and other fuels) in the Brazilian domestic market. However, according to fluctuations in the international oil market, these changes ended up not happening. We explain below everything that the Government revealed about the new readjustments; check out.
Know the fuel price policy
Before talking about the new Government pronouncement, it is important to explain the Fuel Price Policy. After all, she is the one who decides the average values for oil and natural gas derivatives. In July 2022, Petrobras’ Board of Directors confirmed the approval of the Internal Market Pricing Directive. For those who don’t know, this rule affects all fuels that are sold in Brazil. With this standard, an extra level of supervision is incorporated into the policies defined by the Fiscal Administration Council.

Government admits adjustments to lower fuel prices
Recently, the federal administration has made optimistic statements about fuel prices. According to the Government, Petrobras should start a new pricing policy soon. The announcement has not yet been officially made, but it is expected to happen by the end of the week.
Originally, the federal administration had promised not to opt for interference in pricing policy. However, with the constant increases in fuel prices, the government was pressured to take action. The levels of the adjustments, the new gasoline prices and the period of implementation of the changes, however, have not yet been revealed.

Fuel price readjustments come along with changes at Petrobras
In June 2022, amid yet another rise in fuel prices, the Federal Government changed – for the third time – the direction of Petrobras. Currently, the state-owned company is led by Caio Mário Paes. Already in early August, the value of fuels decreased by about 5%. However, this decline came primarily from price reductions at refineries. At gas stations, the decrease was only a few cents.
