All the CGI controversy aside, She-Hulk: Defender of Heroes has received unexpected praise from many fans since launch. In the recent episode, released this Thursday (1), we could see Tatiana Maslany as the main character, acting alongside music star Megan Thee Stallion, who will perform at Rock In Rio 2022 on September 11th.
The episode’s story specifically revolves around how She-Hulk (aka Jennifer Walters) was doing everything she could to get the Abomination, played by Tim Roth, out of prison, despite having escaped to participate in a clandestine fight.
At this point, Wong (Benedict Wong) appears to explain that it was all his fault, thus maintaining the connection with Shang-Chi and the Legend of the Ten Rings. However, despite being special, this was not the participation that most caught the attention of fans of the series.
There was another side story involving a former co-worker of Jennifer’s and a shapeshifting elf from New Asgard. Changing shape, she pretended to be none other than singer Megan Thee Stallion, so the man decides to sue her for fraud.
At the end of the episode, Megan Thee Stallion makes an appearance to claim that there is only one true Megan Thee Stallion — the owner of the hits Savage, with Beyoncé, and Body. The rapper appears in the episode and makes reference to an onomatopoeia often used in her songs.
In addition, she also dances with Tatiana Maslany in the post-credits scenes, with a fun celebration of the two in a private room, to the sound of Body. But, did you know that this unexpected cameo by Megan Thee Stallion was made thanks to Jameela Jamil? Showrunner Jessica Gao explained:
We went through a lot of possibilities, but it was Jameela who actually mentioned Megan. When she mentioned it, we all went crazy. [Ficamos tipo:] ‘It’s not true… Don’t play with us, our hearts couldn’t take it.’ So we heard that Megan loves superhero movies and we thought it would be fun.
Jameela Jamil herself posted on her official Twitter account this cameo with Megan Thee Stallion in which she mentions the twerking scene with She-Hulk, which has become one of the funniest moments in the series so far!
“I asked her to be on the show and she said YES! And She-Hulk swinging with Thee Stallion made history and it was glorious,” the actress wrote.
In She-Hulk: Defender of Heroes, Jennifer Walters is a successful lawyer who lives an ordinary and peaceful life until she has a serious accident. During the unforeseen, she ends up accidentally receiving the blood of her cousin, scientist and superhero Bruce Banner (Mark Ruffalo), the well-known Hulk from the Marvel Cinematic Universe.
From there, the woman’s life changes completely, as she transforms into the female version of the green creature. Now, the lawyer must learn to control her new and intense powers and, even against her will, she becomes a hero with a lot of visibility. In addition to her new abilities, Jennifer also receives an unexpected promotion at work: she is put in charge of running the superhuman law division and her office uses her newfound fame as She-Hulk to gain status.
