They are outlaws O Convicted driver and businessmen for the accident with a school bus that killed 17 people in Erechim, in the north of Rio Grande do Sul, in 2004. The tragedy, which turns 18 on September 22, killed students and a monitor. The vehicle fell into a dam in the interior of the municipality, with 16 people surviving.
The driver Juliano Moisés dos Santos was sentenced to nine years in prison after trial in 2017. Carlos Jose Demoliner and Ernani Davi Rodrigues Dassi were sentenced to six years each. All were found guilty of Manslaughter, when there is no intent to kill. The arrest warrants were issued by the Criminal Execution Court of Erechim after a decision by the Superior Court of Justice (STJ).
The defense of Carlos José Demoliner did not comment on the case. THE RBS TV failed to make contact with the defenses of Juliano Moisés dos Santos and Ernani Davi Rodrigues Dassi.

The accident happened in September 2004. Altogether, 31 students, a monitor and the driver were on the school bus that circulated through the countryside of Erechim. The vehicle crashed into the Corsan dam after crossing a bridge.
The expert’s report pointed out that the bus was over the speed limit, that there were maintenance failures and that the road conditions were bad.
To this day, relatives of the victims are mobilizing for justice.
“The pain is the same and it will be until the end. We want justice. Despite the time, there is still time for justice”, says Lucila Dambrós, mother of one of the victims.
The families are represented by a lawyer, who charges the execution of the defendants’ sentences. “There is no further appeal. We are in the highest instance, and the STJ fulminated any claim [dos réus]”, says Jackson Zanin.
