Heated sales and the consequent appreciation of live hogs throughout the first half of August surpassed the price declines observed in the second half of the month. In view of this, the monthly average of the animal traded on the independent market was above that recorded in July. In the last days of August, live prices fell with some force in practically all the regions monitored by Cepea, reflecting the weakening of the demand for pork at the end, due to the decapitalization of most of the population.
Employees consulted by Cepea report that pork products from the South (the main producing region) arrive in the Southeast at lower values, reinforcing the devaluation of the local product. Even so, the monthly average in August was 1.4% higher than in July, with the animal being traded at R$7.31/kg in the SP-5 region (Campinas, Sorocaba, Piracicaba, Bragança Paulista and São Paulo) in August. . In the meat market, the weak demand in the last week of August and the increase in supply put pressure on the prices of carcasses and cuts. In the wholesale of Greater São Paulo, the special pork carcass had an average price of R$ 10.38/kg in August, 5.3% higher than in July.
