The house of the dragon has lost showrunner and director Miguel Sapochnik, as reported by The Hollywood Reporter. Ryan Condal will head up the series alone, in collaboration with George RR Martin. Sapochnik, however, remains as executive producer of the Game of Thrones spin-off and is developing two other projects with the North American channel. The replacement in the direction of the chapters will be Alan Taylor, directing “several episodes of the second season”, just announced by the channel.
“Working in the Game of Thrones universe for the past few years has been an honor and a privilege, especially spending the last two years with the incredible cast and crew of House of the Dragon,” Sapochnik said in a statement.
The house of the dragon started off on the right foot and the second episode managed to surpass the numbers of the premiere. According to HBO data, The bastard prince scored 10.2 million viewers in the United States, 2% more than the pilot.
Interest in the Game of Thrones franchise has been growing in recent weeks. The original series is the second most watched series on the HBO Max platform, only behind House of the Dragon, which currently has 25 million views in the United States.
