About to leave Tenório’s farm, Marcelo confronts his mother, Zuleica, in search of the truth about his biological father.
In the last chapters of Pantanal, Marcelo (Lucas Leto) decided he needed to leave the farm with Guta (Julia Dalavia). But first, he wants to know the truth about his past and, therefore, confronts his mother, Zuleica (Aline Borges), to find out who his real father is.
In the episode that aired last Wednesday (31), Zuleica begins the story by talking about the time she started her work as a nurse, when she attracted the interest of the hospital’s chief surgeon. At first, she believed that the doctor was interested in her work, but revealed that he started making rude jokes, snide remarks and indiscreet invitations.
Later, Zuleica reveals to Marcelo that she was cornered by the doctor, who raped her. “You were the only good thing that happened to me in this whole story, son”, comments Zuleica. The boy is incredulous with the information that it is the result of this violence. “You were right, going over the past wouldn’t help at all”, comments Marcelo.
Zuleica also talks about the sudden death of the doctor. At the time, the nurse had an affair with Tenório (Murilo Benício) while the farmer was married to Maria Bruaca (Isabel Teixeira). He went to the hospital where Zuleica worked to talk to her when he saw the doctor groping the girl. Tenório got into a fight with him and threatened him if he tried to do anything else with the nurse.
Zuleica revealed that the doctor died in an accident shortly afterwards. “It was a shock. It was in all the newspapers. He was found trapped in the wreckage of the car. With the documents in his mouth”, explained the character. At first, the script had made it more explicit that the documents to which the nurse refers are the doctor’s genitals. However, the version that was aired softened this detail.
Remake of Benedito Ruy Barbosa’s classic, the new version of Pantanal has been on the air since March this year. Rewritten by Bruno Luperi, the nine o’clock soap opera should be broadcast until October 7, being replaced by Travessia, written by Gloria Perez. Due to the mandatory election time, Pantanal is being shown later than usual.
