Leo Lins spoke about the controversies he has been involved in in recent days. Fired from SBT last month for making a joke about a child with hydrocephalus and the Telethon, the former member of The Noite returned to cause revolt on social media after a comment about the death of funk singer MC Kevin (1998-2021). In one of his presentations, the comedian said that the artist would have arrived in hell all flattened, due to the fall from a hotel balcony that resulted in his death. The joke left Valquíria Nascimento, the singer’s mother, extremely shaken.
“I make jokes on stage and who goes to my show or on my profile [de uma rede social de fotos] You know the kind of humor I do. So much so that in the theater I never had a problem”, said Leo Lins in conversation with TV Fama, from RedeTV!. According to the famous, the jokes at his shows have already earned him death threats and he was forced to reinforce his security. “I have already received threats. Many. Life threats in reverse. I’ve had to do a show with a metal detector at the door, searches at the entrance, I’ve had undercover security in the audience,” he said.
As for the joke about MC Kevin, who died at age 23 after falling off a hotel balcony in May last year, in Rio de Janeiro, Leo Lins said that after the repercussions, he sought out the artist’s mother to say that his intention was not make her feel bad. “No [o procuraram, a mãe dele e Deolane Bezerra], but as soon as I saw that it arrived at his mother I immediately sent her a message. My idea is not to make anyone feel bad about my joke,” she continued.
Danilo Gentili’s friend stated that “obviously, there is a context in the joke that has been misrepresented”. The comedian also said he understood the reaction of influencer and lawyer Deolane Bezerra, who criticized him after the repercussion of the joke involving her deceased husband. “I understand her side, perfectly understanding. Even more so the way it comes to her,” he commented.
In the interview with TV Fama, the artist also said that he has a habit of making jokes to alleviate moments of sadness. “I made a joke at my grandmother’s funeral. It’s the way that for me helps me relieve. They said I had to be arrested for the joke, so I think it’s a little over the top,” he said. As for the dismissal of SBT, the artist preferred not to criticize the decision of Silvio Santos’ channel. “SBT is a company that has the full right to do whatever it wants. I only have gratitude to SBT. If they took this attitude, it’s because they thought it was fair”, he concluded.
Leo Lins was fired by SBT after a video in which he makes fun of a child with hydrocephalus went viral on social media. At the beginning of the presentation of one of his shows, the comedian mentioned the Telethon, a benefit event promoted by the AACD (Association for Assistance to Disabled Children) in partnership with Silvio Santos’ channel, and then mentioned in a pejorative way the case of a child from Ceará. In an edition of the program The Noite, Gentili defended his former colleague from the program.
