The survey on the price variation of the basic food basket for the month of August, carried out by the Municipal Management of Consumer Protection and Defense (Procon), identified that the price of the basic food basket was readjusted for the seventh month in a row in Caruaru, Agreste de Pernambuco.
The basic food basket went from R$647.45 in July to R$658.80 in August, with a variation of 1.72%. There was also an increase in the impact of the minimum wage, of R$ 1,212, reaching 54.36%. From January to August, the variation in the value of the basic food basket was 14.51%, with an increase of approximately R$95.
The survey was carried out in 13 establishments in 11 neighborhoods, with a total of 27 items inspected, 19 of which were food items, four were household cleaning items and four were personal hygiene items. The products with the highest price variation were garlic (124.53%), potatoes (113.71%) and manioc flour (108.72%).
The general manager of Procon Caruaru, Nyverson Moura, stated that “this sequence of consecutive increases in the average value of the basic food basket, since the month of February, identified by Procon Caruaru, is also the reality in other locations across the country. In this circumstance, it is up to the consumer to pay attention to this research, and constantly reassess their consumption pattern in an attempt to find more affordable products”.
Cooking gas in Caruaru registered the third consecutive reduction in the average price. In July, there was a drop in value to R$ 100.86. In August, the average value was R$ 98.93. The lowest value of gas in sight was R$ 91 in the Nova Caruaru neighborhood. In the long term, the lowest price reached R$ 95, in the Salgado neighborhood.
