The dollar closed sharply higher this Wednesday, August 31, in the face of persistent international fears of recession amid aggressive cycles of monetary tightening in major economies, while traders warned of volatility on the day due to the formation of the end-of-year Ptax of month.
Ptax is an exchange rate calculated by the Central Bank. At the end of each month, financial agents usually try to direct it to levels that are more convenient for their positions, whether they are long or short in dollars, which usually causes intense back-and-forth in negotiations.
The US currency rose 1.72%, sold at R$5.2009. At the maximum of the day, it reached R$ 5.2099.
On Tuesday, the dollar closed up 1.59%, at R$5.1128. With the result of this Wednesday, it accumulated a high of 0.51% in the month. In the year, it has devaluation of 6.71% against the real.
