Three people die and a couple is injured in an accident involving 5 vehicles in MT
Three people died and two were injured in an accident that involved five vehicles on the BR-163 highway between Sinop and Itaúba, 599 km from Cuiabá, this Saturday morning (3). The victims were identified as Rosimeire Castilho de Oliveira, aged 59, and Mauro Izidoro de Oliveira, aged 67.
According to the Via Brasil dealership, the accident occurred around 9 am and involved a pickup truck, two trailers and two passenger vehicles. The two cars were trapped between the trailers and one of the cargo vehicles crashed into a pickup truck.
In one of the vehicles there were three people, a couple and a child, who succumbed to their injuries and died at the scene. In the other vehicle was a couple, who were rescued and taken to the Sinop Regional Hospital.
According to expert Sandro Lúcio, everything indicates that the vehicles were stopped and one of the trucks hit the rear.
“Normally in pileup situations, one of the vehicles is traveling at low speed and the vehicle comes and collides in the rear and pushes the cars.”, he says.
The Federal Highway Police (PRF) team from the Santa Helena Operational Unit is on site. Traffic is still closed, in both directions, and is expected to be reopened soon.
