According to the Police Report, the police were called and, upon arriving at the scene, they found two SAMU vehicles already providing assistance to the victim, identified as Mateus Braga de Araújo, aged just 26. Unfortunately, when evaluated by the responsible doctor, it was found that Mateus could not resist internal multiple trauma to the thoracic region, and he was declared dead at 4:03 pm.
The situation there became even more tense with the arrival of relatives and residents, who were elated in the face of the tragedy. When the truck driver presented himself, the crowd reacted aggressively, leading to police intervention to prevent riots. The driver was protected and taken to a safe location in a vehicle.
Witnesses report that Mateus was traveling along Rua Padre Paulo with his motorcycle, while the truck, belonging to a ceramics company, crossed Rua Hilário Pereira da Fonseca. The impact occurred when the motorcycle collided head-on with the front rear wheel of the truck, resulting in the fatality. According to the Military Police, the location has no signage.
The truck driver claimed not to have noticed the presence of the motorcycle and only noticed the accident after hearing the noise of the impact. He immediately called SAMU and the Military Police.
The expert was on site accompanied by the hearse to carry out the necessary procedures. Mateus’ body was sent to the Legal Medical Institute (IML). The motorcycle, despite significant damage, had regular documentation and was released to the owner, the victim’s brother.
The truck, which showed several irregularities, was seized and removed to the Fênix aid yard. The driver, who also had his driver’s license suspended, was handed over to the police department for appropriate legal action.
Matheus Braga de Araújo was the cousin of councilor Rodrigo Braga, who expressed his pain on social media, describing the young man as “a kind son, brother and cousin”. The time and location of the wake have not yet been announced.
