Victims of minibus accident in Candeias are discharged from hospital
There were no deaths in the incident. The injured are residents of Jequié, in the southwest of Bahia, who were heading to Salvador for medical treatment.
The accident occurred on BR-324. Initial information obtained by the Fire Department indicates that the driver lost control of the steering wheel and as a result, the vehicle crossed the median of the road and ended up on the other side of the road, in the lane towards Feira de Santana. Jequié City Hall, however, said that the causes and circumstances of the accident are being investigated and have not yet been confirmed.
Images show that the front and one side of the bus were destroyed. The occupants’ belongings, such as pillows, backpacks and sandals, were scattered on the road.
Jequié City Hall also reported that it provides assistance to those involved and highlights that the minibus was up to date with technical maintenance.
Among the people who were injured were a four-month-old baby, two elderly people and the driver of the vehicle. See below the situation of the victims who remain hospitalized:
- Female, 59 years old – referred to the Intensive Care Unit (ICU) of the Salvador Municipal Hospital with bilateral exhaustion (severe scalp injuries)
- Female, 67 years old – referred to the Municipal Hospital of Salvador, with abdominal and neck pain
- Female, 37 years old – referred to the ICU of the State General Hospital, with a serious head injury
