Barbacena City Hall, in Campo das Vertentes, confirmed, this Friday (January 2), the first death from dengue in the municipality in 2024. According to the municipal executive, the victim, a 54-year-old man, died in last January 29th. The positive test for the disease was issued by the Ezequiel Dias Foundation (Funed).
According to the municipal executive, the man presented “clinical conditions compatible with severe dengue fever”. The death has not yet been officially registered on the State’s monitoring panel, which confirmed six deaths from dengue throughout the State this year. There are still 56 deaths under investigation and 36,227 confirmed cases of the disease.
In a note, Barbacena City Hall stated that it has “intensified actions to contain the spread of the disease, with an increase in visits carried out by agents to combat endemic diseases” and that “it counts on the fundamental support of community health agents in identifying breeding sites , providing guidance to the population and monitoring patients, carrying out insecticide applications – fumigation and responding to complaints”.
Minas Gerais declared an emergency situation due to the increase in dengue and chikungunya cases. The determination, signed by governor Romeu Zema (Novo), was published in the Official State Gazette last Saturday (January 27).
“It is authorized, due to the emergency situation, the adoption of all administrative and assistance measures necessary to contain the increase in the incidence of arbovirus cases, in particular the public acquisition of inputs and materials, donation and transfer of equipment and goods and the hiring of services strictly necessary to respond to the emergency situation”, says the text.
With the determination, the Government of Minas Gerais will be able to accelerate the processes for acquiring inputs and materials for the medical treatment of patients. The decree even provides for the possibility of exemption from bidding, based on the terms of item VIII of art. 75 of Federal Law No. 14,133, of April 1, 2021. The emergency situation is valid for a period of 180 days.
