Gazeta de Vargem Grande learned from the Civil Police chief, Antônio Carlos Pereira Júnior, that a suspect involved in the murder of the gypsies on December 19th was arrested. To the newspaper, the delegate informed that investigations into the case are well advanced and that with the arrest, the authorship and the cause that led to the crime should be clarified.
Although the police chief did not say anything further about the matter, comments in the city speak of a man from Vargengrandense, known in police circles, being involved in the murders and that one of the possible causes would be debt collection.
The murder of gypsies Gumercindo Nogueira, 64 years old, and his son Euripes Nogueira, 42 years old, shocked the city and the gypsy community that lives in the municipality, where the two deceased were well known and exercised a certain leadership in the gypsy clan.
As soon as the double homicide occurred, the team led by delegate Dr. Antônio Carlos began investigations to discover the author of the shots that claimed the lives of both men. The crime happened around 8:30 pm, in Jd. Ferry.
According to an article published at the time, the police chief believed that the main target would be Euripes, but as his father was at the scene, he also ended up being a victim of the shooting.
All hypotheses are being investigated and analyzed by the police, but according to the police chief, everything suggests an execution, perhaps due to some commercial disagreement, collection of a debt.
The report found that Euripes was well known in the city and region for lending money, he also traded cars, bought and sold properties and carried out debt collections. These factors are the main lines of investigation of the civil police, however, not ruling out anything that could lead to unraveling this case that shocked the gypsy community of Vargem and the region, and also the city’s residents.
