In sentencing, Yip concluded that Scarlett Jenkinson must serve a minimum of 22 years in prison before being considered for freedom, while Eddie Ratcliffe must be imprisoned for at least 20 years.
On February 11, 2023, 16-year-old Brianna was stabbed around 30 times in the head, neck, chest and back, in a park in Warrington, near Liverpool, northwest England, where she lived.
During the four-week trial, the two teenagers blamed each other for the murder, until both were finally found guilty in December.
Days later, Jenkinson admitted for the first time, in front of a psychiatrist, that he stabbed Brianna, prosecutor Deanna Heer explained to the court this Friday.
The young woman confessed to pulling the knife from her friend Ratcliffe, who did not know the victim before, and inflicting most of the stab wounds. She added that she felt “satisfied and excited” with what she did.
Before committing the crime, these young people, who grew up in families considered stable, had planned it for weeks, as shown by dozens of messages sent from their cell phones.
