Gold and silver for Brazil at the same time ITTF Fa40 Paralympic Open. This Friday (2), in women’s Class 3, Joyce Oliveira and Thais Severo took the first two places in the tournament, respectively. Unlike most other classes, which are contested in two phases, with classification and elimination, this category was contested in a single group.

Last Thursday (1), at first day of competitions, the two faced each other in the opening of the group, and Joyce beat Thais by 3 sets to 1, with partials of 11/7, 6/11, 11/7 and 13/11. Brazilian Marliane Santos (10) and Costa Rican Fiorella Padilla (31) completed the group.

This Friday, Joyce, number 7 in the world rankings, won his two remaining matches and secured first place. Thais, 15th in the world, also beat the other two opponents, but took silver due to her defeat in the opening.

Brazilian Open 2024

The Brazilian International Paralympic Open Fator 40, at the Brazilian Paralympic Training Center, in São Paulo (SP), started on Thursday (1) and ends on Sunday (4). Factor 40 competitions distribute the highest number of points in the International Table Tennis Federation (ITTF) world rankings. Events of this type have not been held in the country since 2009.

157 athletes from Brazil and 18 other countries participate in this tournament: Argentina, Chile, South Korea, Costa Rica, Croatia, Spain, France, Great Britain, Netherlands, Israel, New Zealand, Japan, Portugal, Czech Republic, Romania, Sweden , Taipei and Venezuela. Among them, several world Top 5 in different classes. Brazil has 54 table tennis players competing in the competition.
