Teenagers Scarlett Jenkinson and Eddie Ratcliffe, both aged 16, were sentenced to life imprisonment with minimum sentences of 22 and 20 years, respectively, for murder of young trans girl Brianna Ghey in the United Kingdom. The information is from BBC.

The pair were first revealed after the judge in the case lifted a court order that prevented them from being identified. Brianna, also 16, was killed with a hunting knife in a park near Warrington in February 2023.

The judge said the murder “exceptionally brutal” had elements of sadism by Jenkinson and transphobic hate by Ratcliffe. She further stated that Ratcliffe followed Jenkinson’s example, but that it would be “totally wrong” to suggest he was under her control, ruling that they acted together.

According to the judge, Jenkinson was motivated by the fantasy of killing and “making a real victim feel pain and fear”, expressed a desire to commit the crime again, showed no remorse and admitted to having enjoyed his participation in the murder.

In a statement read to the court, Brianna’s mother Esther said she had “never felt so much pain” and that Brianna “must have been very scared” in the moments before her death. Brianna’s father, Peter Spooner, stated, “Every day, something reminds me of Brianna and what she went through that day.”
