Dollar closes at R$ 4.97 and Stock Exchange falls 1.38% in the week


Foreign investors withdrew R$7.9 billion from B3 in January, the first negative month since October 2023

Ibovespa, the main index of B3 (São Paulo Stock Exchange), closed at 127,182 points this Friday (2.Feb.2024). It registered a drop of 1.01% in the last trading session. During the week, it fell 1.38%. The dollar closed at R$4.97, up 1.08%. In the week, it rose 1.16%.

In the United States, the Dow Jones rose 0.25% this Friday (Feb 2). The S&P 500 advanced 1.07%.

Used to measure confidence in the economy, country risk, or CDS (Credit Default Swap) 5 years old, recorded 137 points this Friday (Feb 2). 1 year ago (2.Feb.2023), it registered 220.

Foreign investors withdrew R$7.9 billion from B3 in January. This was the 1st month with a negative balance in foreign capital since October 2023 (R$2.9 billion). Furthermore, it was the largest withdrawal of resources since August (R$13.2 billion).

The negative balance in January was formed by the investment of R$263.2 billion against R$271.1 billion in redemptions.

On Wednesday (January 31, 2024), investors withdrew R$1 billion from B3. The day was marked by the Copom (Monetary Policy Committee) meeting, which decided to cut the basic rate, the Selic, from 11.75% to 11.25% per year.

The Fed (Federal Reserve, the US central bank) also had a monetary policy meeting. Maintained the interest range of 5.25% to 5.5% per year.
