oneworld alliance celebrates its 25th anniversary today


A oneworld, an alliance formed by 13 important airlines, is celebrating its 25th anniversary today. Founded in 1999 by American Airlines, British Airways, Cathay Pacific and Qantas, it was formed to increase connectivity and flexibility for passengers and to reward them with special benefits and privileges.

25 years of oneworld

Founded in 1999, oneworld is made up of 13 major airlines around the world – Alaska Airlines, American Airlines, British Airways, Cathay Pacific, Finnair, Iberia, Japan Airlines, Malaysia Airlines, Qantas, Qatar Airways, Royal Air Maroc, Royal Jordanian and SriLankan. It has 26 affiliated airlines and one partner – Fiji Airways, in addition, Oman Air is expected to join the alliance in 2024, becoming its 14th full member.

More than 330,000 oneworld member airline professionals work tirelessly on the ground and in the air, delivering smooth, memorable travel experiences for passengers across the alliance. To commemorate the milestone year, uniformed employees at member companies will wear unique pins, specially designed with a new 25th anniversary logo.
