Gasoline and diesel will have price adjustments from Thursday (01)

Gasoline, diesel and cooking gas (liquefied petroleum gas – LPG) will become more expensive in Paraná and in all other Brazilian states from this Thursday (1st).

This is because the 12.5% adjustment in the Tax on the Circulation of Goods and Services (ICMS) rates on products will come into force.

The increase was approved in October 2023 by the National Committee of State Secretaries of Finance (Comsefaz) and will be valid until the end of this year.

See how much the increases will be:
Gasoline: from R$ 1.22 to R$ 1.3721 per liter (+R$ 0.15/liter);
Diesel: from R$ 0.9456 to R$ R$ 1.0635 per liter (+R$ 0.12/liter);
Cooking gas: from R$1.2571 to R$1.4139 per kg (+R$0.16/kg).

This adjustment is the first since the rate became the same in all states, fixed per liter/kg.
According to Comsefaz, the adjustment considers the update for inflation in the period from November 2021, when the tax base was fixed according to the average sales values.

According to the committee, this was a “way to mitigate the instability of the impact of the then pricing policy practiced by Petrobras.”

Diesel rose with federal taxes
Before the ICMS adjustment, a liter of diesel had become more expensive this month with the resumption of collection of federal PIS and Cofins taxes.

The PIS/Cofins rates on diesel and biodiesel have been zero since 2021, as a way of reducing the price of fuel for the consumer.

Paraná increased modal ICMS in January
At the beginning of the year, ICMS increased in Paraná at the modal rate, which affects several products, and other rates.

The increase occurred on January 1st, when the law sanctioned by Governor Ratinho Junior (PSD) came into force. Check out the recent increases:

Modal ICMS, which is levied on most products and services sold in the state: increased from 19% to 19.5%;
ICMS on electrical energy, except rural electrification: from 18% to 19%;
ICMS on mineral water and alcoholic beverages: from 17% to 17.5%;
ICMS on jewelry and goldsmith artifacts: from 17% to 17.5%;
ICMS on tobacco products: from 17% to 17.5%;
ICMS on natural gas: from 18% to 12%.

The bill was processed for eight days in the Legislative Assembly of Paraná (Alep) and was approved in sequential sessions.
