The 0.18% drop in the prices of industrial products at the factory gate in December was due to declines in half (12) of the 24 activities surveyed, according to data from the Producer Price Index (IPP), released this Thursday, February 1st, by the Brazilian Institute of Geography and Statistics (IBGE).

The four activities with the biggest variations, reported IBGE, were oil refining and biofuels, whose prices fell 4.05% in December compared to November; extractive industries, with a price increase of 2.30% in the same comparison; paper and cellulose (+2.01%); and perfumery, soaps and cleaning products (+1.50%).

The oil refining and biofuels sector stood out in terms of negative impact, subtracting 0.45 percentage points (p p.) from the variation in the general index.

Other activities that stood out were food, (+0.14 p p.); extractive industries (+0.11 pp), and other chemical products (-0.09 pp).
