The Brazilian economy should be shaken in the coming weeks with the rumored arrival of a significant increase in the minimum wage and the value of 9 benefits. The staggering amounts involved in this change should provide new perspectives for many citizens. In this article, we will discuss these changes in depth and highlight that updated minimum wage payments are expected to begin this month.
The increase in the minimum wage above inflation was confirmed, reaching the value of R$1,412. From today onwards, the adjusted value of the national minimum wage will be paid, although it has been approved since the first day of the year.
This amount is paid after one month of effective work. It represents an increase of almost 7% or R$92, compared to the previous amount of R$1,320, valid until December 2023.
Which benefits will have higher values?
For those who receive the minimum wage, their benefits linked to this value, such as unemployment insurance and the Continuous Payment Benefit (BPC), will also have their values readjusted.
With the new minimum wage, it will be possible to purchase almost two basic food baskets, which currently cost, on average, R$772.51 each. The Inter-Union Department of Statistics and Socioeconomic Studies (Dieese) estimates that 59.3 million people in Brazil have income linked to the minimum wage.
Importance of readjustment for the economy
This adjustment to the minimum wage directly impacts the economy, as it increases the value of services and benefits that use the national minimum wage as a reference. With this new value, people who receive the minimum wage or benefits linked to it should see the total readjusted in their salaries at the beginning of February.
