Two accidents involving at least five trailers, a truck and a van, during the early hours of this Thursday (February 1st), left 20 injured on the BR-381, known as the Fernão Dias highway, near Brumadinho, in the metropolitan region of Belo Horizonte.
At around 6am this Thursday, the congestion in the direction of São Paulo reached 6 km at km 525, where the accident occurred.
According to initial information from Arteris, the concessionaire that manages the stretch, it all started when a trailer hit the back of another heavy vehicle, lost control, collided into the median, had the cabin ripped off and the rear part, which was carrying the load, tipped over. and it was crossed. The driver of the truck that overturned was rescued in serious condition.
This first accident caused traffic congestion, as the highway was closed with the trailer crossed. Around 15 minutes after the first accident, another trailer, loaded with tires, was unable to brake and hit vehicles that were stopped on the stretch, including two other trailers, a truck and a van. The driver of that truck jumped out of the truck to save himself. From this collision, one person was rescued in moderate condition and 18 others had minor injuries.
During the early hours of the morning, some parts of the highway were reopened, with only the left lane closed towards São Paulo at the time of the second accident. At km 525.6, the section was completely closed and traffic came to a standstill.
