A medical report attached to a request for provisional release from businessman Cleriston Pereira da Cunha indicated a risk of death and urgency for the prisoner’s release. Cleriston was the victim of a “sudden illness” this Monday (20) while sunbathing in Papuda, where he was arrested for alleged participation in the events of January 8.
The businessman had been waiting since September 1st for the analysis of the Minister of the Federal Supreme Court (STF), Alexandre de Moraes, on the request for provisional release, which received a favorable opinion from the Federal Public Ministry (MPF).
In the request for provisional release sent to Moraes on August 3, the businessman’s defense attached a medical report informing Cleriston’s serious health condition.
“The patient has been treated in rheumatology for around 8 months due to multiple vessel vasculitis and myositis secondary to Covid-19. He remained hospitalized in 2022 for 33 days, undergoing corticosteroid pulse therapy and antibiotic therapy. After discharge from hospital, he is using the following medications: Prednisone during weaning, currently 5mg/day; fluoxetine 20 mg/day (due to vasovagal syndrome secondary to vasculitis); propranolol 20mg 12X12 hours; azathioprine 100mg/day. Due to the severity of the clinical condition, risk of death due to immunosuppression and infections, we request speedy resolution of the patient’s legal process. Even due to the risk of a new covid infection that could worsen the patient’s clinical condition”, says the medical report.
Furthermore, according to the document, Clériston had an appointment at the rheumatology outpatient clinic at HRT (Hospital Regional de Taguatinga) scheduled for January 30, 2023, but was prevented from attending. The same happened on February 27, 2023, when the businessman was unable to obtain authorization to go to the hospital.
Clériston was also taking medication for diabetes and hypertension and had already been treated at the Papuda medical service for symptoms of Covid-19.
“It is extremely important to inform that recently the doctor responsible for monitoring the patient requested necessary tests (doc. Annex) to ensure the health of the accused, however, was unable to attend the requested exams, due to preventive detention, and has been living in a degrading and unhealthy place, and that these conditions can lead to fatal complications for the patient, now accused. In this sense, prison segregation has been harmful to the health of the person in question, since the combination of such treatments is also necessary in conjunction with prescribed medication”, says an excerpt from the request for provisional release signed by lawyer Bruno Azevedo de Sousa.
In a statement, the DF Penitentiary Administration Secretariat (Seape/DF) said that Cleriston was rescued by the prison unit’s health team who “performed resuscitation maneuvers as soon as the sudden illness was confirmed until the arrival of the SAMU and Firefighters team. which were immediately acted upon.”
Cleriston was 46 years old, lived in the Federal District and leaves behind a wife and two daughters.
