Wiris Gustavo de Oliveira, former player for Fluminense’s under-23 team, died in a car accident at km 144 on BR-267, near Lima Duarte, in Zona da Mata Mineira, last Sunday. In the collision, a 64-year-old woman also died and three others were injured, including a child.
According to the Fire Department, the accident was a head-on collision between two cars, a Honda HRV and a Ford Focus. Wiris was driving one of them and both his death and that of the 64-year-old woman were confirmed at the scene.
Three other victims were found alive and taken by SAMU teams to the Emergency Hospital in Juiz de Fora, a neighboring city. According to firefighters, one of the rescued victims is a child in serious condition. The Federal Highway Police (PRF) supported the service, and technical expertise was called in.
The midfielder was hired in February 2021, after playing for Loko Plovdiv, in Bulgaria. Wiris played 14 games for Fluminense’s under-23 team – which ended up being disbanded this year. His last club was Paracatu, which he defended this year after leaving Tricolor.
