During the reception for 32 repatriates from the Gaza Strip, in Brasília, on Monday night, President Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva criticized the violence during the conflict and the war crimes committed by Israel.
“At 78 years old, I have seen a lot of brutality, a lot of violence, I have seen a lot of irrationality. But I have never seen such brutal, inhumane violence against innocent people. Because if Hamas committed an act of terrorism and did what it did, the state of Israel is also committing several acts of terrorism by not taking into account that children, by not taking into account that women are not at war, by not take into account that they are not killing soldiers”, stated Lula.
At the time, the president also mentioned that there are already 5 thousand children dead and 1,500 missing. “Certainly [as crianças desaparecidas] are in the middle of the rubble. And then, the destruction of everything that people took decades to build a house, a street, a building, a school, a hospital… and then a simple bomb detonates it”, added Lula.
ABI expresses its unrestricted solidarity with President Lula’s statements, which have been the target of attacks, both in editorials in Brazilian newspapers and in demonstrations by the Brazilian Israeli Confederation.
“Nothing justifies the war crimes being committed by Israel against the Palestinian people, killing women and children, attacking hospitals and destroying homes. Israel’s right to react to the Hamas attack on October 7th does not authorize Benjamin Netanyahu’s fascist government to carry out a true genocide against the Palestinian people. We advocate a ceasefire now and the immediate establishment of humanitarian corridors that allow care for the thousands of injured Palestinians”, said the president of ABI, Octávio Costa.
