The grandmother of the two-year-old boy who died after being forgotten in a school van, in the North Zone of São Paulo, stated that the driver and assistant used to check the children who were transported on a list. Shaken, she did not want to blame them for the death, but stated that there was ‘irresponsibility’.
The case occurred in Vila Maria this Tuesday (14). The Civil Police arrested the two for murder.
On TV Globo, Luzinete Rodrigues dos Santos detailed that Apollo Gabriel Rodrigues was placed in the van to go to daycare at around 7am, but was not left at the unit. In the afternoon, the boy was admitted to the Vereador José Storopolli Municipal Hospital, in Parque Novo Mundo, dead, at around 4:20 pm.
“He left the station wagon in the parking lot, in terrible heat, like today, only to realize that the boy was still behind when it was time to hand over the children. It wasn’t their fault, but it was irresponsible. My daughter wants justice. Whoever takes care of children has to have maximum responsibility”, said the grandmother.
In a statement, the SP Public Security Secretariat said that military police were called at around 4pm.
‘The driver took the victim to the Councilor José Storopolli Municipal Hospital. The incident was forwarded to the Civil Police to register a police report and adopt the appropriate measures. Other information will be provided after the police record is completed’, according to the SSP.
The body of Apolo Gabriel Rodrigues, aged two, will be laid to rest on Thursday (16) from 9am, at the Vila Formosa Cemetery, east side of São Paulo. The funeral will be at 11 am at the same location.
