The body of former governor Colombo Salles, 97 years old, who died this Tuesday, 14th, in Florianópolis, will be laid to rest at the Legislative Assembly of Santa Catarina (Alesc), starting at 10 am this Wednesday, 15th. The wake will take place until 2pm, open to the public, with a restricted farewell ceremony scheduled to take place until 3pm. The procession with the body of the former governor will proceed to burial in the Jardim da Paz cemetery, in the Saco Grande neighborhood.
“I received with sadness the news of the death of former governor Colombo Machado Salles, aged 97. Salles was a good guy and a man of great public spirit. His contribution to our state leaves a legacy that will last in history. We declare three days of official mourning in his memory. May God comfort the family at this difficult time”, said governor Jorginho Mello.
The state government declared seven days of official mourning for the death.
About the former governor
Born in Laguna, Colombo Salles was a civil engineer. He was governor of the State between 1971 and 1975. Among the highlights of his administration is the second bridge that connects Santa Catarina Island to the mainland, which was named after him since its inauguration.
Colombo Salles was also an advisor to the State Court of Auditors (TCE), between 1983 and 1986. He was also a professor of Civil Engineering at the Federal University of Santa Catarina (UFSC), a position from which he retired in 1992.
