Se Rasgum presents a special Music On The Table (MOTT), discussing music, of course, but expanding the debate beyond the obvious, with tables and talks on the climate emergency, and mental health in the music industry, for example. The program is all free and is divided between Palacete Faciola, Usinas da Paz and Teatro Gasologista.

Artists, directors, journalists are some of the regular professionals at Music On The Table, the Se Rasgum Festival’s audience training, lectures and learning cycle. But over the 18 years, the party has gained another proportion, and among the guests, in addition to the traditional ones, are climate change researchers, sociologists and social activists, with those who make up the necessary Culture, Sustainability and Climate Emergency table, mediated by Luciana Adão (Oi Futuro), and will have as debaters Lucas Nassar (Laboratório da Cidade), Giovana Abreu (British Council), Alziney (duo Curumiz) and Samantha Chaar (Composta Belém). This program will take place on the 14th, at Teatro Gasologista, and will mark the launch of the Amazon Festival Circuit.

For artists who want to understand how a certain band achieves the morale of being a headliner at a major event, a good choice is the lecture “A Lista das Listas”, by Pena Schmidt, music producer and record executive, responsible for the emergence of Titãs and Wrath!, for example. In the lecture, which will take place on the 15th, in the Palacete Faciola auditorium, Schmidt will detail the criteria created to “unify” the various “Best of the Year” lists published by specialized music publications, to create “The List of Lists” , which shows a sort of final ranking of the best albums of the year.

He explains that the idea was born between 2010 and 2012, when he was in charge of programming at the Ibirapuera Auditorium. He and other festival curators did not trust metrics such as likes and views alone, and from there the first version of the List emerged, with the best of 2013. Schmidt defines the result as “surprising and encouraging”, which gave him momentum to work on polishing the criteria and continue creating lists that reveal new and promising work.

For artists, “The List of Lists” is a powerful promotion, as it rewards works supported by artistic value – thus avoiding the jabá that most lists have become. “I believe that the list is quite clear about some basic premises. Successful works do not appear there, the commercial aspect is not recommended as ‘best of the year’. This is already an incentive. Afterwards, artistic integrity becomes visible: unfiltered works, sincere emotion, frequent the lists. Then, an observation: most of the albums did not have major digital campaigns, but organic promotional work”, he says. As an example, the album JARDINEIROS, by Planet Hemp, the main attraction at Se Rasgum this year, tops “A List of Lists” for 2022.

The opportunity to bring this work to Belém has excited Pena Schmidt, who declares that he has had a love affair with the city and the music produced in the region for some time. “I have a long love story with music from Pará since that 3rd Rock 24 hs, through the Music Awards in 2003, then Terruá in 2006. I was already at Se Rasgum in 2019”, he says, excited to be back in the edition of 18 years of Se Rasgum. “I really want to watch Planet Hemp, for its brilliant bounce, and Coletivo Rádio Cipó, which I haven’t seen yet”, he reveals.

Understanding digital ecosystems, finding new trends and knowing how your content is popular on social media today seems to be as important as putting quality sound work into the world. Dani Ribas, from Sonar Cultural, who has a PhD in Sociology, created the ID_MUSIQUE: Fanbase method beyond the algorithm, with which she won the Business Innovation Award in 2021 from the “Transform your Research into Business” program, from Fundação Fórum Campinas. Anyone who attends his lecture Audience segmentation on social networks: how to increase public interest in your music, scheduled for the 16th, in the Faciola auditorium, will be able to understand, on a scientific basis, what to do to use the algorithm as their ally in career advancement.

“The great merit of this method is that, in the end, it is a great study of artistic demand. In other words, who wants my product, my music, and why do they want it? What are the points that bring the public closer to the artist? Why does he like this song or why doesn’t he like it? So, it’s a great study of demand in a market where there is a lot of artistic supply and few tools to study the demand for music. After all, there are 100,000 new songs released every day on platforms”, explains Dani, who will be coming to Se Rasgum for the first time this year.

“Last year I participated in MOTT, but virtually. I never went in person. It has always been a dream, because it is a very recognized festival, a reference, which launches a lot of trends in a region of the country that is special, should be for all Brazilians, and for me, in particular, it is very special. So it’s a dream to be able to attend this edition in person, because it’s a cutting-edge festival”, says Dani.

And the program is also divided into different workshops, with topics such as graffiti, composting, career management and the infamous path to successfully accessing the Rouanet Law. There will also be lectures on how artists can benefit from public policies aimed at culture, and about digital distribution, in addition to an expected panel on the reggae scene in Belém. The complete, free program can be found below.
