The Minister of Ports and Airports, Silvio Costa Filho, met with representatives of the airlines. On the agenda of the meeting, measures to reduce ticket prices.
Within 10 days, airlines must present a plan with alternatives to reduce ticket prices. The announcement was made by Minister Costa Filho, on Tuesday night.
Representatives of the National Civil Aviation Agency (Anac), the Civil Aviation Secretariat, and the airline association also participated in the meeting.
Minister Costa Filho highlighted the federal government’s mobilization to reduce the price of air travel.
The price of airline tickets has been rising in recent months. According to Ipca October 15, calculated by Ibge, traveling by plane became 23.75% more expensive. Airlines claim that most of the costs, around 40%, are due to jet fuel.
But according to the Minister of Ports and Airports, Petrobras reduced the price of fuel by 14% in 2023. Costa Filho also highlighted that airlines claimed that they are still suffering the impact of the pandemic.
Despite the higher ticket prices, there is an expectation of growth in the sector. According to the Ministry of Ports and Airports, the number of domestic passengers is expected to increase by 15% this year, reaching almost 100 million.
