The parents of a baby who died during childbirth at the Nossa Senhora de Lourdes Maternity Hospital, in Aracaju, registered a police report this Thursday (9) so that the circumstances of the death can be investigated. They suspect medical negligence.
According to the father, Vinícius Silva Amorim do Nascimento, last Sunday, his wife, who was eight months pregnant, was admitted to the health unit with pain and high blood pressure.
However, she was told it was a urinary tract infection. Vinícius stated that only after four hours and intense bleeding did the doctors on duty decide to perform a cesarean section, but during the procedure the child did not survive.
The cause of death, according to the death certificate, was indicated as premature placental abruption, which is disputed by the family, as the woman had a planned and peaceful pregnancy.
The Aracaju Health Secretary said that she is investigating the case, and that all appropriate measures will be taken by management. She also informed that the entire flow of this service is being evaluated to rectify the factors that led to this tragic event.
