Ronnie Lessa has an increased sentence for disappearing with weapons used in Marielle’s murder

This Wednesday (08), former military police officer Ronnie Lessa, accused of killing councilwoman Marielle Franco and her driver Anderson Gomes, had his sentence increased by the Court of Justice of Rio de Janeiro (TJRJ) in the process of concealing the weapons used in crime. According to the investigation, the weapons were thrown into the sea days after his arrest, in March 2019, and were never found.

The decision in the second instance, unanimously, increased Lessa’s sentence from four and a half years, to five years in prison, in a closed regime. As a result, the former police officer remains imprisoned in a maximum security prison, in Campo Grande, Mato Grosso do Sul. It is not yet known who ordered the crime, which continues to be investigated.

Ronnie’s wife, Elaine Pereira Figueiredo Lessa and his brother, Bruno Pereira Figueiredo, were imprisoned for eight years in the same case. A bigger shame than the previous one. José Márcio Mantovano received seven years, and Josinaldo Lucas Freitas had six years of semi-open status decreed. Requests to increase sentences are made by the Public Ministry of Rio de Janeiro (MPRJ).

According to the investigation by the Capital Homicide Police Station (DHC) into the homicides, Lessa demonstrated hateful behavior towards personalities linked to ideal left-wing parties.

In the decision, the judges highlighted that “The consequences of the crime deserve a negative judgment of censure, as the consequences of the crime committed are harmful, due to the connection of Ronnie Lessa’s firearms to very serious crimes, especially homicides, which form a cause of torment and terror in the society of Rio de Janeiro“.

In 2021, judge Carlos Eduardo Carvalho de Figueiredo, of the 19th Criminal Court of the Rio Court of Justice, wrote that “the conduct of the accused prevented the seizure and identification of several firearms that may have been used in the commission of numerous crimes“. A boatman who works in Barra da Tijuca stated during the investigations that Josinaldo took the weapons out of boxes and threw them into the sea, close to the Tijucas Islands.
