In view of the President of the Republic’s decision to dissolve the Assembly of the Republic, the president of the PSD says he is prepared to face the legislative elections next year.
The President of the Republic announced this Thursday the decision to dissolve the Assembly of the Republic and schedule legislative elections for March 10th of next year.
The president of the PSD, Luís Montenegro, has already reacted and applauded Marcelo Rebelo de Sousa’s decision, stating that it is urgent to “reestablish the prestige and credibility” of the country.
“We want to show respect and agreement with the decision of the President of the Republic. It was inevitable that the word would be returned to the Portuguese people. It is urgent to reestablish people’s prestige, credibility and trust in democratic institutions. This is the third political quagmire that the Socialist Party has plunged the country into in the last 22 years. It is necessary to nip the evil in the bud and it is necessary to turn the page on the impoverishment that has been the hallmark of recent years in Portugal”, said the social democratic leader.
With humility and ambition Montenegro says it is prepared to face the elections, reiterating that it is important to tell the country that it is not “necessary to emigrate in search of a better life”.
“I want to tell the Portuguese that we will contest these elections with humility and ambition. It is important to tell the country, young people, mothers and grandparents that there is no need to emigrate in search of a better life,” he added.
