The superintendent of Sudeco (Superintendence for Development of the Central-West), Rose Modesto, is optimistic about the inclusion of the superintendency she commands in tax incentive programs for companies, given by the Federal Government. “Mato Grosso do Sul will experience the best moment in history”, said Rose about the inclusion of Sudeco in the incentive program that will benefit the economy of MS, together with the Rota Bioceância project. Modesto also highlights the importance of the benefits for the entire Midwest region.

The project (PL 4,416 of 2021) was approved by deputies in August and, in September, in the Senate, the proposal also had increased incentives for Sudeco, which was not in the original text.

Rose says that after meetings with ministers and government leaders, the project that extends until 2028 incentives for companies in the areas of activity of Sudene (Superintendencies for Development of the Northeast), Sudam (Superintendence for Development of the Amazon) with the inclusion of Sudeco, would be voted on this Wednesday (08), but was removed from the agenda.

The Federal Government was against inclusion without a study that would impact the values of tax benefits with the entry of Sudeco. With Sudam and Sudene alone, the estimated values are R$15 billion for 2024.

Interim leader of the Government in the Chamber, deputy Alencar Santana (PT-SP) and the rapporteur of the proposal in the plenary, deputy Eduardo Bismarck (PDT-CE) even said that they would reject the inclusion without due impact studies.

“By this Thursday (09) we should have these numbers for possible voting and approval next week”, says Rose who met with deputies Vander Loubet (PT) and Dagoberto Nogueira (PSDB) who mediated conversations with the minister of Planning and Budget, Simone Tebet, Minister of Institutional Relations, Alexandre Padilha, President of the Chamber Arthur Lira and other leaders of the Federal Government and benches.

“After so many attempts that took place in the past, Mato Grosso do Sul will experience the best moment in history with the arrival of the Rota Bioceânica. As we will become a flow of production through the corridor through our state, it will mean that many companies want to install because of the much lower cost for transporting production. And if there is a tax incentive for us to become more competitive, we will combine the useful with the pleasant

Rose Modesto also highlighted that the FCO (Constitutional Financing Fund for the Central-West) is expected to increase from R$10 billion to R$12 billion in 2024. “Today, Mato Grosso do Sul gets 23% of this total. Let’s see if we managed to increase it to 25% or 26%”, says
