Agent dies and PM is injured in accident between motorcycle and bus in Barra da Tijuca | Rio de Janeiro

Rio – An accident between a bus and a motorcycle left a civil agent dead and a military police officer seriously injured, on the night of Tuesday (7), in Barra da Tijuca, in the West Zone of Rio. They were working in the Programa Segurança Presente e were carrying out a chase, when they invaded the BRT rail, on Avenida das Américas, and were hit by the collective.

In a statement, MOBI Rio reported that last night, a city bus, which provides occasional service, collided with a motorcycle from the Segurança Presente program, which entered the BRT lane, close to the Bosque da Barra station. The Fire Department was called at 7:17 pm to the Mandala condominium and the military found the officer already dead. The PM was seriously injured and taken by an ambulance from the Mobile Emergency Care Service (Samu) to a hospital in the region.

According to Security Presente, the victims and another pair also on motorcycles were patrolling Avenida das Américas to prevent theft and robberies from drivers stuck in traffic when the accident occurred. “The Superintendence regrets the death of the civil agent, which occurred in the defense of the citizen of Rio de Janeiro, and sympathizes with the family. All support is being given to the military police officer injured in the accident”, he said in a statement.

The program also reinforced that “all employees undergo constant training, which includes a defensive driving course.” In a statement, the Civil Police reported that the case was registered at the 16th DP (Barra da Tijuca) and the examination was carried out at the scene of the accident. The bus driver was interviewed at the district and investigations are ongoing. There is still no information about the identities of the victims and the burial of the agent.
