In terms of appearance, the new features are the new bumper, the two chrome bars that cross the grille and the 20-inch wheels. In the headlights, the SUV is equipped with High-Performance LED and two points of light complement the daytime running light system. At the GLE Coupeequipped with the Multibeam LED system, there are four light points.
There are also differences in the lanterns. In the SUV there are two blocks made up of LEDs. The coupe has two bars.
Both versions use the visual package from AMG, Mercedes’ sports division. It includes the diamond grille, the front bumper with chrome finishes, AMG side panels and wheel arch cladding in the vehicle color, as well as the rear bumper with diffuser.
Inside, the GLE now comes with a new steering wheel with touch-sensitive buttons, central and side air vents with a chrome finish, replacing the black used in the previous version. There is also an ambient lighting system with 64 color options that can be selected individually.
The multimedia center with a 12.3-inch screen — the same size as the instrument panel — has been updated to the latest version of MBUX, Mercedes’ virtual assistant. The sound system has also been modernized with a total of 13 speakers, 13 separate amplifier channels and a system power of 590 watts.
Both the Mercedes-Benz GLE SUV and coupe have the same 3.0 in-line 6-cylinder turbodiesel engine with 367 hp of power and 76.4 kgfm of torque. The set is electrified through an Integrated Starter Generator (ISG) and a 48 volt electrical system.
The ISG combines the starter motor and alternator into a single electric motor installed between the engine and transmission. The system also performs hybrid functions, such as acceleration, recovery, charging point displacement, inertial navigation and the almost imperceptible starting of the engine during the start/stop function.
The gearbox is a 9-speed automatic, with 4MATIC all-wheel drive. Factory data indicate acceleration from 0 to 100 km/h in 5.6 seconds and a maximum of 250 km/h.
