Hospital Moinhos de Vento received the Gold Seal of quality from the Brazilian GHG Protocol Program (PBGHG) for the audited Inventory of Greenhouse Gas (GHG) Emissions in 2022. This is the second time that the institution has received the maximum certification.
The Gold Seal certifies the Hospital’s inventory for achieving the highest level of qualification in providing quality public emissions data to society through the Public Emissions Register – which can be accessed by any citizen.
“We strive for the Gold Seal every year. It is our obligation to be certified. It consists of carrying out a greenhouse gas inventory audited and certified by ABNT”, highlights Rogério Almeida, environmental coordinator at Hospital Moinhos de Vento.
Using this material, the institution adopts internal improvements in equipment and processes to reduce the emission of these gases. One of the actions resulting from this material was the creation of the Certificate of Life project, which foresees the planting of a tree for each child born in the hospital by 2027.
“We also carry out neutralization and compensation actions, which is the case with the planting of 20 thousand trees from the Certificate of Life Project”, adds Almeida.
For the Hospital’s administrative superintendent, Evandro Moraes, the Seal reinforces the institution’s role in caring for people.
“The certification proves that we go far beyond providing medical services. We care about society, about the world we live in and that we will leave to the next generations”, highlights Moraes.
The Hospital carried out its first Inventory in 2021, when it received the Silver Seal. The following year, it reached the highest level of certification – Gold. Furthermore, the institution was the first hospital in southern Brazil to have a public record on greenhouse gas emissions, present in the largest inventory base in Latin America.
Hospital Moinhos de Vento became, in 2022, the only one in the South certified with ISO 14001:2015 for environmental and sustainable practices, in addition to the Gold Seal of the Greenhouse Gas Protocol (GHG Protocol). Moinhos also received the I-REC, an international certificate that proves that all electrical energy consumed in the operation comes from renewable sources. It was the first institution in the sector in Southern Brazil to receive this title, within the scope of the Brazilian GHG Protocol Program. Today, 100% of energy comes from wind generation, reducing the impact on greenhouse gas emissions.
