Officially announced last Tuesday (7), Zelda’s live action film was very well received by the market. The revelation that the project is underway resulted in a 6.7% appreciation in Nintendo’s share pricewhich reached their highest price since June 2021, with a peak of ¥6,858.

According to Bloomberg columnist Gearoid Reidy, this is the biggest jump in the company’s shares witnessed since December 2020. The Switch manufacturer states that the adaptation of one of its most famous franchises is part of its objectives to reach audiences that may not have lots of direct contact with games.

The Zelda film will be produced in partnership with Sony Pictures, with Nintendo acting as the project’s main financier. The production of the feature film will be a work divided between the franchise’s creator, Shigeru Miyamoto, and the famous product Avi Arad, who has several successful Marvel films under his belt.

Nintendo is going through a good phase

Nintendo also revealed that has already found the director of the Zelda film in the form of Wes Ballwho has already worked on the Maze Runner trilogy and will direct Planet of the Apes: The Reign, which hits theaters in 2024. However, so far there is no information about a script or a possible cast for the adaptation.

The bet on the feature film comes just a few months after the Japanese company found great success with the Super Mario Bros. animation. Official data shows that more than 168 million people around the world watched the film, which generated more than R$6.5 billion at the global box office.

The company has also been going through a good phase in the gaming world, managing to sustain good sales of the Switch even as its successor approaches. According to Nintendo’s most recent fiscal report, 132 million units of the product have been sold to date and there is still no sign that its official support will end soon.
