“He was a professional, with more than 35 years of experience. We are saddened because it was an unexpected fatality”, were phrases said at the wake of pilot Cláudio Atílio Mortari, 69 years old, who died after a plane crashed and exploded near the runway at the International Airport from Rio Branco, in Acre. The procession at Santa Marida Airport, followed by the sentry at the Parque das Primaveras Cemetery, took place late this Sunday afternoon (5), in Campo Grande.
“An exemplary brother. He was a wonderful person, everyone liked him. Cláudio had plans to spend Christmas with us this year, but unfortunately God didn’t let him”, replied Antônio Mortari Filho, the victim’s brother.
To the Campo Grande News, Antônio was very shaken and even cried. He said he hadn’t seen his brother for many years, but highlights that their family relationship was special. “Although we were far away, we exchanged messages every day. I spoke to him before the accident, we wished each other a good Sunday and so on, and then it happened.”
For the brother who lives in the Capital, the loss of Cláudio is characterized as a fatality. “It happened, right? And what are we going to do? We have to accept it, we have to accept it, because there’s no other way. And even more so his situation, the plane caught fire, it burned everyone, right? There’s no way to recognize it.”
According to the pilot’s niece, journalist Camila Mortari, Claudio came to Campo Grande when he was 10 years old. “Eleven brothers came from the interior of São Paulo and he was one of them”.
Camila reports that the family members are shaken and have come together to face the grief together. “He is the first brother of the eleven to die. They were very close.”
