After winning four gold medals at the Pan American Games in Santiago, Guilherme Costa is already planning its goals for the Paris Olympic Games. The talented swimmer fulfilled his personal prediction of reaching the top of the podium in four different events at the Pan.
In an interview with the portal ‘Lance!’, the athlete said that he now has victory in the 400 meter freestyle as his main objective for the next edition of the Olympics.
“I really want to win the 400m freestyle (at the Olympic Games). Since the last Olympics, I have been working hard towards this. This is my focus. I also think we will have a great race in the 4x200m relay, the team is very good. In the 800m, I will also do a great race”, Guilherme opened the game.
At this year’s Swimming World Cup, held in Fukuoka, Japan, Guilherme Costa came fourth in the 400 meter freestyle event. The Brazilian swimmer was surpassed by Australian Samuel Short, Tunisian Ahmed Hafnaoui and German Lukas Martens, who occupied the top three positions, respectively.
“In the last World Cup, I came fourth. I know more or less who I’m going to swim with, my main opponents are a Tunisian and an Australian. In this training phase, we are very similar, I’m following you. It’s going to be a very strong race, in the last World Cup it was the biggest in history, the highest possible level, with two people approaching the world record. It will be a very tough race, but I know I can win”, he concluded.
Guilherme Costa has already secured his place at the Olympic Games. However, before competing in Paris, the Brazilian athlete will have an additional opportunity to face his main opponents. This will take place during the Aquatic Sports World Cup, scheduled to take place in Doha, Qatar, between February and March 2024.
