A driver was arrested for drunk driving after causing an accident involving his car, another car and a truck on the SP-101 highway, in Campinas (SP), in the early hours of this Thursday (2).
According to the Military Highway Police, it all happened around 4:30 am, when the drunk driver lost control of the vehicle and ended up crashing into a metal fender. His vehicle was stopped in the middle of the highway.
Then, a passenger car that was passing through the area was unable to brake in time and collided with the driver’s car, who was arrested. Then, a truck that was also passing by the place hit the driver’s car, which accidentally hit the trapped driver’s car.
Personal Renato Zampieri, who ended up having the vehicle involved in the accident, was going to work when everything happened. He took a breathalyzer test, which came back negative for alcohol consumption.
“The car hit the guardrail and came to the middle of the track, so I was already way ahead, I couldn’t stop, then the truck came behind too and caught up very quickly”, said the person.
In an interview with EPTVa TV Globo affiliate in Campinas, Lieutenant Jaelson Nobre said that the arrested driver refused to take a breathalyzer test, but was charged with drunk driving due to the signs he showed, such as confused speech.
“Each vehicle had just one person, just one driver, and it was found that the person responsible showed obvious signs of intoxication. It also appears that he already has a fine for refusing to take a breathalyzer test. So, his condition there, physical and psychologically, he is very altered. In this case, he will be charged and taken to the police station. He was arrested for being drunk and driving”, explained the lieutenant.
