Dog adopted by couple is presumed dead and found abandoned in the rain and not walking

An elderly dog ​​was reported dead by a couple of adopters and found hours later abandoned and not walking in the rain, in Praia Grande, on the coast of São Paulo. She did not survive the injuries and died. To the g1this Wednesday (1st), protector Mylena de Castro, 25 years old, said she felt helpless seeing the dog victim of mistreatment.

Berenice she was rescued from the street by Mylena de Castro and two other women, who helped her independently. At the time, the dog, almost 15 years old, was uninjured, just thin and hungry.

On October 7th, a couple were interested in adopting her and carried out the entire procedure responsibly, including the signing of a term between the parties. “Whenever we donate an animal, whether it’s a puppy or a full-grown one, we follow it up, ask for a photo and always ask to see how it’s doing.”

However, Mylena stated that after the adoption, the couple took a long time to respond about the animal’s condition. “We asked about her and they just said she was fine. We asked for a photo, but they had always left or were at work, it was always an excuse.”

The protector commented that the couple even said that Berenice didn’t want to eat food, but she explained that animals tend to be surprised and feel cornered during the adoption process. They decided they didn’t want to be with her anymore.

During the donation process, it was agreed between the parties that, in case of withdrawal, the protectors should be informed and the adopters should return the animal for them.

Two days after the couple expressed their desire for the return, on October 25, the adopter’s husband informed the protectors about the Berenice’s death. “We thought it was strange and I said I would remove the body. But, they said they would hold a funeral and we asked for a photo of her.” However, no images were sent, according to her.

On the same day of the alleged death, around 6pm, the protectors were informed that Berenice was abandoned in the rain. “She cried a lot, she was very scared. It was presumed dead for those who adopted, they said they would do a funeral and everything. We asked for a photo and they just abandoned it.”

“And then our shock. We thought she was dead and she was there alive, abandoned in the rain and screaming in pain”, said Mylena.

After being questioned by the protector, the adopter’s husband stated that Berenice had run away. “He [disse] who was afraid to say that she had run away and preferred to say that she died. I said she was [adotada] walking and was unable to walk, dirty and hurt.”

However, the man said that Berenice had already been adopted without walking. “How did she run away if he said she already came to him like that? How could an animal that doesn’t walk, according to him, run away?”, he joked.

Despite being rescued by her protectors and hospitalized, Berenice did not survive the injuries and died this Tuesday (31). According to the veterinary report, she was lying down, with red spots on her abdomen and pelvic limbs, with painful tenderness on her thigh and limbs, in addition to an injury on her left leg. The animal was in a degenerative process and was subjected to euthanasia due to the clinical picture.

Mylena said that she has not yet registered a Police Report (BO), but you want to do it. “We rescue without anyone’s help, we are not an NGO, we are independent protectors. We take care of many animals, we strive to raise funds to help them, just as is the case with Berenice.”

Mylena said she had never been in this situation. She says she feels helpless, sad and guilty because if they had realized that the couple would not be good, Berenice would never have been donated.

“We cried over the death of an animal of ours, which we rescued, cared for and, out of nowhere, discovered that it was alive, suffering on the street again. It was difficult to see it like that,” he said.
